Cake Toast

  • 1.5 cups flour
  • ¼  cup sugar
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup yogurt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 ½  tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla essence or½ tsp cardamom powder


  1. Preheat oven to 180o  C.
  2. Grease a loaf pan with little butter and sprinkle with flour to coat or use parchment.
  3. In a medium bowl sieve flour, baking powder and soda. 
  4. Add salt, whisk the dry  ingredients until combined.  Set aside. 
  5. Beat butter & sugar until pale and creamy. 
  6. Add yogurt, beat well and add vanilla essence or cardamom powder and incorporate into the mixture. 
  7. Add dry ingredients, mix thoroughly and add milk and mix.  
  8. Pour into the baking pan and tap gently to smoothen and remove any air bubbles. 
  9. Bake on the middle rack for 40 to 45 minutes till golden brown. 
  10. Test with a butter knife or toothpick to check if the centre is done.
  11. Remove to a rack and cool the cake completely. 
  12. Once cool slice the cake into 1/2 “ thick slices. 
  13. Preheat oven, place the cake slices on a baking tray and bake 20 to 25 mns till the base is light golden brown.
  14. Turn the slices and bake 15 to 20 mns till brown on the underside.
  15. Remove and cool completely before storing in airtight container.
