
Dal
DAL (Masoor, tur or moong dal)
Ingredients
- 1 cup dal
- 1 small onion
- 2 green chillies, slit
- 4 crushed garlic
- Small pc. ginger
- 1 medium tomato
- ¼ tsp. turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp. coriander leaves, chopped
Tempering
- 1 big onion, sliced
- Few curry leaves
- 1 tsp. mustard seeds
- ½ tsp. cumin seeds
- 1 tbsp. oil
Method
- Wash the dal and drain.
- Add 2 cups water and cook till tender.
- Add sliced onion, green chillies, ginger, tomato, salt and turmeric powder and cook till the dal is soft.
- Take a pan and heat the oil, add mustard seeds, when they splutter add cumin, curry leaves and crushed garlic.
- Add the sliced onion and fry till golden brown.
- Pour the contents into the dal.
- When it begins to boil add the coriander leaves and simmer 5 minutes.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
