  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 14 oz can/bottle bolognaise sauce
  • 2 tbsp. worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. mixed herbs (optional)
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Salt

White sauce:

  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 ½ cups milk
  1. To make the meat sauce, heat the oil in a saucepan and sauté the onion until soft.  Add the meat and fry till browned. Stir in the remaining ingredients.  Adjust the seasonings, cover and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Meat sauce should be thick and almost dry.
  2. For white sauce, melt the butter in a saucepan, add the flour and cook for 1 minute.  Remove from the heat and gradually add the milk.  Return to the heat and bring to the boil, stirring, until well thickened. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Grease a rectangle or square dish.
  4. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce.
  5. Dip the lasagne sheets one by one in hot water and place over the meat sauce.
  6. Top the sheets with half the meat sauce and half white sauce.
  7. Repeat the layers then top with the cheese.
  8. Bake in a preheated moderate oven (180 dec C/350 deg F), for 45 minutes.
  9. Can finish off by placing briefly under the grill to slightly brown the top of the Lasgne.
