Hot & Sour Mackerel Curry

Hot & Sour Mackerel Curry

Ingredients

  • 4 large mackerels
  • 1 onion
  • 2 to 4 green chillies (to taste)
  • 1” pc. ginger
  • Salt to taste

 Grind to a paste

  • 8 to 10 red chillies (kashmiri)
  • ½ tsp. coriander seeds
  • ½ tsp. cumin seeds
  • 10 to 12 pepper corns
  • 4 flakes garlic
  • Small lemon sized ball tamarind
  • ¼ coconut
  • ¼ tsp. turmeric powder

Method

  1. Clean and cut mackerel into 2 or 3 pieces.  Wash, apply little salt and set aside.
  2. Slice the onion, slit the green chillies and cut the ginger into strips and put  into a vessel along with salt, masala paste and enough water for curry.
  3. Mix well and bring to a boil.  Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the fish and cook 15 to 20 minutes or till done and oil surfaces.
