Strawberry Cookies

Strawberry Cookies


  • 1.5 Cups flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp cream of tartar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup butter (1 stick)
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup dried strawberries, chopped (optional)
  • 1 tsp. strawberry essence (Can substitute with 1 tbsp. strawberry powder)
  • ¼ tsp. red gel food coloring (use liquid if gel not available)
  • Color qty will depend on how light or how deep you want the color, so use little at a time to achieve the required color.
  • ½ cup sugar to coat the cookies (optional)


  1. Preheat oven to 180 deg C.
  2. Sieve the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt and mix well. 
  3. In a separate bowl add the butter and sugar and cream till light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and strawberry essence (if using) mix till well combined. 
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the bowl, strawberry powder (if using) and mix well. 
  6. Add red food coloring and mix to combine, add more color if required, a little at a time, to achieve the desired shade. 
  7. Line baking tray with parchment and using a medium scoop drop cookie dough 2” apart. 
  8. Sprinkle sugar on top of the cookie if desired. 
  9. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until just set.
