Khichidi
Ingredients
- 1 cup basmati rice
- ½ cup masoor dal
- 3 cups water
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 2 onions, chopped
- ½ tsp. turmeric powder
- ½ tsp. pepper powder (optional)
- ½ tsp. cumin seeds (optional)
- 2” pc. cinnamon
- 5 cloves
- 2 tbsp. ghee
- Salt to taste
Method
- Wash and soak the rice and dal together for ½ hour.
- Heat ghee in a vessel, add cumin and the whole spices, add onion and fry till light brown.
- Add the tomatoes and turmeric powder and fry till soft.
- Add the drained rice and dal and mix for a few mintues.
- Add water and salt and keep on high flame and bring to a boil.
- Reduce flame to very low, cover and cook till done.
- Serve hot with papad, pickle and Kadhi.
P.S.: Masoor dal may be substituted with yellow moong dal (without skin)
